He has moved to the US for his further cancer treatments, like chemotherapy, and underwent three cycles of chemotherapy at the Cancer Research Institute in Boston and later in Indianapolis. Throughout his cancer treatments, he felt weak, and his hair fell out, and he lost weight, but still his spirit remained unshaken.
During his treatments, he read the autobiography of Lance Armstrong, ‘It’s not about the Bike,’ which gave him hope and inspiration to go ahead with his treatments. He has spoken in his several interviews that ‘if Lance could do it, so can I too.’ He has also received immense support from his family and friends and fellow cricket players around the world.
The Great Comeback: Returning Back to the Cricket
In March 2012, after undergoing months of intense treatments like three cycles of chemotherapy, he was declared cancer-free. But according to him, he wasn’t done yet, he wants to return where he actually belongs: the cricket field!
Just a few months later, in September 2012, he made an emotional comeback to International cricket in a T20 match against New Zealand. Al though, the comeback was not easy and he had to work harder than usual, to regain his fitness and never give up.
Over the next few years, he continued to represent India internationally in both ODIs and T20Is, including the 2014 T20 World Cup. His presence on the cricket field was indeed a symbol of triumph over extreme adversity.

In 2012, he launched a nonprofit organization called the YouWeCan Foundation, aimed at spreading cancer awareness and helping people who are financially weak with early detection and timely cancer treatments.
